Increasing my gas milage.
With gas prices reaching almost 4 dollars a gallon, I decided to try to see if i could increase my gas millage by implementing some driving methods called Hypermiling. The techniques include:
- Using my cruize controlĀ in the city as an accelerator. (I also use it for uphill climbing. Allowing it do the work instead of my foot).
- I put the car in neutral when i was going down hills and preparing to break at lights and stop signs.
- I shut my car off at stop lights and in traffic if I anticipated sitting for longer than 10 seconds.
- I some points i would shut my car off if i was braking to a stop at a light.
- not driving above 60 mph
I have a 1998 Chevy Prism that according to the fueleconomy.gov site gets 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. I was able to go 376.3 miles on 11.325 gallons or 33.2 in city driving. Just by doing the things above. It was my first time trying them so once i get more comfortable
Next I am going to try and lighten the weight of the car, check the tire pressure , change the air filter, and get new spark plugs.
My goal is to get 400 miles out of a tank of gas. We shall see.

Hello! I have been working on increasing gas mileage for over 35years. I have developed and built a new fuel system that runs on compressed air. ( Which by the way is a very old technology!) The difference is I added a 2nd part to my technology that produces its own compressed air. And by the way it produces more air than it uses. My patent was issued to me by the U.S. government Patent # 6,006,519. I have been to Washington only to have them ignor me. They say it could not be done. However a mechanical engineer/patent attorney was speachless when he saw it run. He asked me after catching his breath. Did I know how many laws of Physics I had broken? And 2nd did I realize the unlimited applications of what I had developed. The Answer was NO! Washington D.C. Capital Hill in particular cannot be trusted they all want something for nothing. I cannot tell you how many things they took from me knowing I could not take them on. I have many energy inventions sitting in a drawer. And that is where they are going to stay until I figure out the magic formula to take on the big guys as a little guy. On disability with very little to no capital. Its people like you that may have what I am looking for. So If you are interested. So am I. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely: Dr. Jack V. Hormell Jr.
