My problem with this piece of shit holiday is that your expected to give the someone something and if you don’t she will give you shit about it and all her friends call you names. I think that giving things to people when it expected is shallow and meaningless. Not to mention that the prices are jacked up and you have to wait an ungodly amount of time waiting to eat dinner out. So I have a suggestion, why not take a calender of the year and throw a dart at it. Whatever day it hits make that your Valintines day. Buy her the flowers and take her out and all the crap.  I think that will mean more, especially since it a suprise.  Here are the VD card I will be sending out (meisch.org):

Â

And a song to commemorate the day
I’m the Man who Murdered Love by XTC:
I’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?He was begging on his bended knee
For me to put him from his misery
He hadn’t worked at all this century
Said I’d do a job for all humanityI’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?I put a bullet in his sugar head
He thanked me kindly
then he layed down dead
Phoney roses blossomed where he bled
Then all the cheering angels shook my
hand and said
I’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
Oh it’s the middle of the song
I’m guilty, I’m guilty, I’m guilty
And then I turned and said
There’ll be no more pain
from broken hearts
And no more lovers to be torn apart
Before you throw me
in your dungeon dark
Your honour, they’ll be putting statues up
In every park
I’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
So dear public I’m here to confess
That I’m the one who freed us from this mess
Love won’t be calling at your adress
‘Cause what you never had you never miss,
I guess
I’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I’m the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
If you never, ever use it
You know you’re gonna lose it
If you never, ever kiss it
How you ever gonna miss it?

There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved. — Last Sentence of Origin of Species — Charles Darwin
Today is Charles Darwin’s birthday and his Theory on Origin of Species is still holding strong. See:

- The bacteria (unicellular organisms that lack a nucleus) which are in focus in this picture and represented by orange nodes.
- The archaea are probably more closely related to the eukaryotes than they are to the bacteria even though they lack a cell nucleus and represent some of the most extreme forms of life on earth. They are represented by red nodes and near the top and in the background of the picture.
- The eukarya (all cellular organisms with a cell nucleus) are represented by yellow nodes and are located on the left hand side and in the background of the picture.
Awesome stuff. Go read some of Darwin’s writings, you may learn something. Or are you afraid?

That is the only way I can explain all the coverage of Anna Nicole Smith’s death. Think Progress has a video compilation of the news coverage. Joe Scarborough was the only one to ask an Ok question:
David, why the obsession with Anna Nicole Smith? Why have the cable shows and even the broadcast news shows — and certainly the morning shows tomorrow — why have they all focused in on this story? And why are they going to be providing a lot more time to Anna Nicole Smith than the war in Iraq and the possible coming war with Iran?
I cannot in my right mind comprehend how her death can be the #1 story when in the last 3 weeks 6 US helicopters have been shot down in Iraq, the Senate Republicans have blocked debates on resolutions on the escalation and people are still dying over there. Yet when a money hungry B movie Playboy centerfold, who wasn’t even all that cute, dies the world loses all focus on the things that really do matter.
I’m sorry she died. It is always sad when someone dies but , Jesus Christ people, get with the program.
Update: Jack Cafferty makes a point (from ForeignPolicy.com):
JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: Is Anna Nicole Smith still dead, Wolf?
BLITZER: Yes, we’re going to — updating our viewers coming up shortly on…
CAFFERTY: I can’t wait for that.
BLITZER: … the mysterious circumstances surrounding that, Jack. Thank you.
I’m happy to know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
